Entertaining in Style

Entertaining is a major part of our lives, especially for women. There is a way to bring Interior Design, and your personal style to entertaining that can help you get the most out of your party, and have people talking about it for a long time afterward.

First, let's talk about decor. Party decorations range from dollar store tacky, to Swarovski crystals. The trick is to find the cheap stuff that doesn't look cheap. Consider a single color theme. A monochromatic look can be incredibly beautiful.

Another dramatic color combo is black & white. This brings an immediate formal quality to your party and can be quite classy. Just be sure to have about 25% more white than black. Otherwise it can be a little overpowering. You could also do black and white, then add a primary color to add a splash of color.

If you don't like monochromatic or black & white, there are literally thousands of other choices. Just look them up online and you'll find one that you like.

After you've tackled the color scheme, it's time to find decorations. For good decor, I usually hit the thrift store to see what I can turn into centerpieces, wall hangings, anything really. Like in the blush table picture above, that was a frame, and they just made a flag banner and that's all the wall
hanging they needed. You can spray paint just about anything these days. Why not get a bunch of vase-like containers and spray them to match the color scheme of your party? You can use them for flowers or food.

Now, here comes one of the most fun parts of throwing a party - the food display. This is one of my favorite aspects of throwing a party because there are endless ideas. Here are some fun ideas you can use to display your food for your next party:

Group your food into colors                                     Use teacups and saucers for a tiered display

Mix in some decorations to tie your food table in to the party

Use unconventional containers for your food

Food at varying heights makes it more interesting and also makes all the food visible

I hope this gives you some ideas to steal for your next party! Just remember to have fun at your own party, and everything will be fine.
