Most of you know me or my husband or my family personally, but for those who don't, we are very religious people. I am Mormon. (For more info, click here)
I believe that we were all given gifts/talents before we left our Heavenly Father to come to earth. He made us all unique so that we can embrace each other's talents and help cultivate them. I firmly believe that my design sense and creativity are spiritual gifts from Him. I rejoice in the knowledge that I have found something in my life that brings me joy.
When I finish a project or redesign a room, I feel closer to my Savior and my Heavenly Father. It makes me feel that I've made this earthly home a little bit better for someone, and that I'm using my talents for a good purpose. It makes me happy.
None of this would be possible without my husband and my parents. My husband is incredibly supportive and the best man I have ever known. We don't have much discretionary money, but what little we have he lets me use for projects for this blog, redecorating the house, you name it. He edits my posts every week, helps me with ideas, and is my #1 fan. He is just incredible. I am a very lucky woman.
My parents have nurtured this talent from day one. My mom let me decorate her room, my room a few times, the living room, music room, kitchen, pretty much every room in her house at one time or another. She loves my ideas and never hesitates to tell me how creative I am, and how much she loves me. I remember designing a cornice for my old bedroom that was kind of complicated to make. I still remember my dad cutting it out for me so that I could upholster it. My dad is incredibly smart (he's a mechanical engineer) so, figuring things out is his job. But I still appreciate him taking time out of his busy schedule to go out to the garage and draw and cut it out. It turned out fantastic, and they still have it up.
My in-laws have also been great. They've let me take over their weekends with my endless projects, and let us use their tools and other materials. My dining set, one of my most popular projects to date, wouldn't have been possible without them. Neither would the most recent project, the End Table.
I know that my Heavenly Father lives and that He loves me. I know that we all have special talents that were given to us by Him. I urge you to find yours and cultivate them in whatever way you can. There is no better feeling than to be doing what you love.
I hope you enjoyed the departure from the normal post. I love you all and am so grateful for your love and support.
